Author, Nick Stanley refers to, ‘a nearly past’, a past we are just touching by the fingertips before it slips away’.
Working from family photographs, found images or the public archives, I attempt to reincarnate and reinterpret a fading past as paintings. Photographs can capture and silence the past, and fix faces that peer back at us from another time and place. Whilst these paintings may be tinged with an undercurrent of sadness or melancholy, they can also serve as a joyous reminder to the preciousness of our own time here.
